What changes are made to Chrome's Autoplay?
In April 2018, Google announced changes to their autoplay policy in Chrome browser to improve user experience and reduce the amount of data used and battery drain.
These changes impact all forms of media - from videos on websites to music played through ad networks - by forcing users to manually interact with them before they can start playing.
There were changes implemented in subsequent versions of Chrome, and the general rule remains that autoplay with sound is not allowed without user interaction.
If a website wants to play media with sound, it must have user interaction first, such as a click or tap.
If a video is off-screen, it will not autoplay until the user scrolls to it.
How does it affect Aloware?
Aloware as your all-in-one cloud-based phone system provider uses audio for incoming call notifications in its web application. Therefore, if you are using Chrome as your browser, the Chrome autoplay policy changes affect Aloware's functionality.
If Aloware's web application tries to play a notification sound, it may not play automatically without you interacting first with the page.
If you are attempting to answer the call, but the call fails to connect.
How to fix this?
You should enable Chrome to allow sound.
Click the Lock icon in the address bar of your Chrome browser.
Click the Site Settings.
In the Privacy and Security tab > under Permissions settings > navigate to Sounds and select Allow.
You can also allow other relevant settings like Microphone and Notifications.
