What is Voice Media IP and Why the Change?
Voice Media IP serves as a crucial component in Aloware Voice Communications. The transition from per-region IP range allocations to a unified global range (168.86.128.0/18) and the expansion of the media port range from 10000-20000 to 10000-60000 are aimed at enhancing your calling experience.
These changes are implemented to deliver faster, more secure, and smoother calls, ensuring an improved and seamless communication experience for users.
When is it Happening?
To facilitate a seamless transition, there will be two days of testing with limited traffic:
December 5, 2023: 1% of all calls will use the new range for 24 hours.
January 16, 2024: 20% of all calls will use the new range for 24 hours.
All traffic will officially migrate on January 23, 2024.
What You Need to Do
To get ready for these changes,
Ensure your Network Engineering team or Company IT is informed and take the following steps to update your network infrastructure before December 5, 2023:
Incorporate 168.86.128.0/18 into your firewall rules.
Enable UDP from these IP addresses across ports 10000-60000.
If you do not have a corporate firewall, then there is no action required at this time.
These adjustments will seamlessly integrate the upcoming modifications, ensuring uninterrupted service.
Consequences of Inaction
If you don't take action by the specified dates, potential consequences include:
December 5, 2023 - up to 1% of calls may experience one-way audio and dropped calls.
January 16, 2024 - a maximum of 20% of calls may experience one-way audio and dropped calls.
After January 23, 2024 - Failure of all calls if the new IP and port ranges are not implemented.
