Aloware-HubSpot property mapping: Do Not Contact (DNC)

Map Aloware's DNC field to a HubSpot checkbox so contacts marked Do Not Contact in Aloware are flagged in HubSpot.

Written by Laarni D

The DNC field sends each contact's Do Not Contact status from Aloware to a HubSpot contact property. When a contact is marked as DNC in Aloware, the HubSpot property shows YES.

Aloware remains the master record for DNC status, so the value only flows from Aloware to HubSpot.

The HubSpot integration must already be connected before you can map this field. For how DNC works in Aloware, see DNC and SMS Opt-Out: What's changing in how Aloware enforces compliance.

Create the HubSpot property

  1. In HubSpot, go to Settings > Properties > Contact properties.

  2. Create a contact property with the Single checkbox field type, for example Do Not Contact.

  3. Save the property.

Map the DNC status in Aloware

  1. Log in to Aloware admin.

  2. Navigate to Integrations > HubSpot > Settings.

  3. Open the Contact Property Mapping tab and select +Add Mapping.

    Contact Property Mapping tab

    Click +Add Mapping

  4. In the Aloware field, select DNC.

  5. In the HubSpot field, select the property you created, for example Do Not Contact. The direction is fixed to Aloware to HubSpot (→).

  6. Save your changes.

How the DNC field works

DNC is the strictest contact status in Aloware. It applies to the whole contact, so every phone number on the record is covered.

What DNC blocks

A contact marked as DNC can't be called or texted from any of its numbers. Marking a contact as DNC also opts it out of SMS.

DNC and SMS opt-out are separate

DNC always blocks texts, but an SMS opt-out never sets DNC and never blocks calls.

If you also want to track SMS opt-outs in HubSpot, map the SMS Opted Out field separately. See Aloware-HubSpot property mapping: SMS opt-out status.

Aloware keeps the record

The direction is fixed to Aloware to HubSpot, so changes made to the DNC property in HubSpot don't reach Aloware.

Aloware saves each number's DNC status in a separate, permanent record. The status stays in place even if the contact is deleted and imported again, and Aloware restores it when the contact syncs with HubSpot again.

When the value is sent

DNC syncs to HubSpot whatever the Contact Update setting is in the Sync tab.

A bulk DNC removal doesn't reach HubSpot right away. The new value is sent the next time the contact changes.

Removing DNC

Removing DNC from a contact requires Aloware Customer Support and a signed waiver. Removing DNC doesn't turn SMS back on, so the contact stays opted out of SMS until it opts back in.

What agents see in Aloware Talk

DNC status appears on the contact's record, so agents know the contact can't be reached before they try.

When a contact is marked as DNC

The contact record shows that both calls and texts are blocked. Agents can't call or text the contact from any of its numbers. In HubSpot, the DNC property shows Yes.

When a contact is only opted out of SMS

The contact record shows that SMS is blocked and calls are available. This contact isn't marked as DNC, so the HubSpot DNC property doesn't show Yes.

Editing the property in HubSpot

Changes made to the DNC property in HubSpot don't reach Aloware. To change a contact's DNC status, it has to be changed in Aloware.

Verify the mapping

After saving the mapping:

  1. Open a contact in Aloware Talk and mark it as DNC.

  2. Open the same contact in HubSpot and confirm the DNC property is checked.

  3. Open the contact in Aloware Talk and confirm calls and texts are both blocked.
