Trust score: what it is and how to improve your SMS campaigns

Understand how TCR trust scores affect your SMS daily sending limits, how to appeal a low score, and how to view your score in Aloware.

Written by Laarni D

The Campaign Registry (TCR), an independent third-party organization, assigns a numeric trust score to each brand registered with US wireless carriers.

The score reflects your brand's credibility and reputation with carriers, and it controls how many SMS and MMS messages you can send per day. A higher score also reduces the chance of your messages being filtered as spam.

This article covers the daily limits at each score level, how to appeal a low score, and how to check your score in Aloware.

Higher trust scores translate to increased message throughput and audience reach.

Daily sending limits by trust score

Your trust score controls how many outbound SMS and MMS segments you can send in a 24-hour period. Limits reset at midnight Pacific time.

General carrier limits:

Trust score

Daily limit

75-100

200,000 SMS segments + MMS

50-74

40,000 SMS segments + MMS

25-49

10,000 SMS segments + MMS

1-24

2,000 SMS segments + MMS

Sole proprietor brands have a daily limit of 1,000 messages, regardless of trust score.

Best Practices for Bulk SMS Sending

When sending bulk SMS:

  1. Use Aloware's Broadcast feature for automated bulk sending.

  2. Include an opt-out message in every SMS, such as: "If you don't want to receive messages like this, reply with STOP."

How to appeal a low trust score

If you receive a low trust score, you can appeal the TCR decision. Here is how:

  1. Gather your documents. Have your current business registration documents ready, such as your EIN or IRS documentation.

  2. Submit your request. Contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or Technical Support Representative (TSR) to start the appeal.

  3. Check the fees. Appeals submitted within 45 days are free. After 45 days, a $40 re-vetting fee applies. Enhanced vetting, which provides a more detailed review, costs $95.

  4. Wait for a decision. Allow 2-4 weeks for processing. During high-volume periods, this may extend to 4-6 weeks.

Troubleshooting SMS sending issues

If you are unable to send SMS messages through Aloware, it may be due to an incomplete A2P Campaign registration. This registration is required by Twilio, Aloware's carrier, to verify your business and enable SMS capabilities.

To resolve:

  1. Start the A2P Campaign Registration - Go to the Aloware Admin page and initiate the registration process.

  2. Wait for Approval - The review process typically takes 3-5 business days but may complete sooner.

  3. Follow the Guide - For detailed instructions, refer to the A quick guide to campaign registration and compliance in Aloware.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your SMS capabilities are fully operational and compliant with carrier requirements.
