When using Aloware, it’s important to understand how traffic is classified as either local or international. This classification directly affects how your calls and messages are billed, whether they are sent manually by agents or automatically through system actions such as broadcasts, sequences, or Power Dialer calls.

This guide explains what local traffic means, how international traffic is defined, and how billing works for each type.

What is local traffic in Aloware?

Local traffic refers to communications that take place within the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

If your agents are making or receiving calls and messages in these regions, they are counted as local communications. For most plans, local manual calls and messages are unlimited. However, if the system sends the communication automatically—such as in a broadcast—these are billed at automation rates.

This means that everyday agent-to-customer interactions in these regions typically fall under your plan’s unlimited usage, while automated actions are billed separately.

What is international traffic in Aloware?

International traffic refers to any communication that happens outside of the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

This applies even if both the caller and receiver are in the same international country. For example, a call from a UK number to another UK number is still considered international within Aloware.

Unlike local traffic, both manual and automated international calls and messages are billed. There is no unlimited allowance for these communications, and the cost depends on the country where the call or message is made or received.

How billing works for local and international traffic

Billing in Aloware depends on two things: whether the communication is local or international, and whether it was made manually by an agent or automatically by the system.

For local traffic (US, Canada, Puerto Rico), manual calls and messages are generally included in most plans, with no extra charges for agent-to-customer conversations. However, when the system sends communications automatically, such as through broadcasts, sequences, or the Power Dialer, these are billed at automation rates.

For international traffic (all other countries), both manual and automated calls and messages are billed. There is no unlimited allowance for international communications.

It’s also important to note that automated international traffic is not charged twice, there are no additional surcharges on top of the international rate.

Where to check rates and usage

Aloware provides built-in tools to help you monitor costs and stay on top of billing. If you want to see how much you’ve spent, you can check your overall usage and charges by navigating to Account > Usage.

For calls and messages sent outside the U.S., Canada, or Puerto Rico, you can view detailed international call and SMS rates under Account > International Pricing. This section shows the per-country rates so you’ll know exactly how much international communications cost before you send them.
